Prof. Tal Ellenbogen
Principal Investigator
Prof. Ellenbogen obtained his bachelor's degree in Physics and Computers from Tel-Aviv University in 2002 and his Master's degree in Physics from Tel-Aviv University in 2005. He did his PhD degree in Nonlinear Optics at the School of Electrical Engineering in Tel-Aviv University. During his PhD he received several awards for excellence including the SPIE, Intel, Applied Materials, Weinstein, and The Electro-Optics Fund awards. In 2010 he received the Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship and joined the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University to work on nanoplasmonics and excitonics. During his postdoctoral fellowship he acted as an active member of The Center for Excitonics in MIT and the Harvard Center for Nanoscale Systems. In October 2012 he took his current position at the Department of Physical Electronics at The Tel-Aviv University School of Electrical Engineering to establish The Laboratory for Nanoscale Electro Optics.

Dr. Mukesh Kumar Sharma
Postdoctoral Fellow
Mukesh Kumar Sharma joined the NEO Lab in November 2018 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He received his B.E. degree (with Honors) in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2007 from University of Rajasthan, India, and M.Tech degree in Optoelectronics (with Gold medal) from SGSITS, Indore, India, in 2012. After B. E. degree, he joined Optoelectronics Devices Group, Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Pilani, India, as a Research Assistant from 2007 to 2009. He completed his M.Tech project work on design and fabrication of nanostructured corrugated grating-based devices for sensing applications under the supervision of Prof. Suchandan Pal at the CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, India from 2011-2012. In 2013, he joined Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) as a full-time research scholar for his Ph.D. degree under the joint supervision of Prof. Aloka Sinha and Prof. M. R. Shenoy, and his doctoral thesis devoted to design and development of liquid crystal core waveguides for photonic applications. At the NEO Lab Mukesh is working on development of active THz devices based on liquid crystal-nonlinear metasurface composites.

Dr. Cormac McDonnell
Postdoctoral Fellow
Cormac joined the NEO Lab in April 2019 as a Postdoctoral Researcher working on THz and SHG generation from metasurfaces. He received his B.Sc. degree in Experimental Physics from The University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) in 2012. He completed a PhD in 2016 at the National Centre for Laser Applications at NUIG investigating laser ablation mechanisms of transparent conductive thin films using ultrashort laser pulses. In 2016 he joined M-Squared Lasers in Scotland as an applications engineer, participating in a number of EU project collaborations including HYPERIAS and LUSTRE. As part of this he undertook a number of guest research secondments to the University of Siegen Germany and St Andrews University Scotland. In 2018 he joined the Lasercenter at Munich University of Applied Sciences as a Postdoctoral Researcher working on pump-probe techniques for investigating the mechanisms of ultrashort laser-metal interactions.

Lior Michaeli
PhD Student
Lior joined the NEO Lab in August 2014 as M.Sc. student and continued to the direct Phd program. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics (with Honors) from Tel-Aviv University in May 2014. During his B.Sc. he participated in a research project under the supervision of Prof. Yoram Dagan, studying the behavior of quantum capacitance in 2D electron gas formed by the contact surface of two oxide insulators. At the NEO Lab Lior studies nonlinear nano-plasmonics.

Nadezda (Nadia) Lapshina
PhD Student
Nadia joined the NEO Lab in November 2016 as a PhD student. She received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Radiophysics from N.I. Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (Russia) in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Her M.Sc. thesis was devoted to experimental and theoretical study on propagation and focusing of acoustic pulses in shallow water. During the years 2008 - 2011 Nadia worked as a research engineer at Scientific Research Institute for Measuring Systems (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) where she developed components for control over nuclear power plants. Between 2011 and 2013 she worked as a junior researcher at National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (Saint Petersburg, Russia) where she conducted innovative theoretical research on light manipulation at the subwavelength scale by nonlinear plasmonic nanostructures. From 2013 till 2015 Nadia worked as an engineer in the fiber fabrication group of Russell Division in Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (Erlangen, Germany). At the NEO Lab Nadia studies optical properties of peptide based nanostructures.

Sharon Karepov
PhD Student
Sharon joined the NEO Lab in October 2013 as a M.Sc. student. During her Master's, Sharon developed polarization-selective elements and integrated them into digital holographic microscopes. Sharon graduated in 2017, and continued in our group as a PhD student. She received her B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tel-Aviv University in 2012 with majors in biomedical signals and systems. Between 2008 and 2011 she worked as a Medical Research Assistant at METEOR Medical Center. In the NEO Lab, Sharon is researching and developing plasmonic metamaterials for use in Ophthalmic devices.

Ofer Doron
PhD Student
Ofer joined the NEO Lab in July 2016 as M.Sc. student and continued to the direct Phd program. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics and Computer Science (with Honors) from Tel-Aviv University in May 2016. During his B.Sc. he participated in a research project under the supervision of Dr. Roy Beck, studying the interactions of the neuron cell cytoskeletal proteins using SAXS and cross polarized microscopy. At the NEO Lab Ofer studies nonlinear nano-plasmonics.

Tsafrir Abir
PhD Student
Tsafrir joined the NEO Lab in April 2016 as M.Sc. student. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics and Chemistry from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2015. In the last year of his B.Sc. studies he worked as a research assistant at Prof. Uri Banin's lab, investigating the physical properties of nano-crystals. At the NEO Lab Tsafrir studies 2D semiconductors optics.

Simos Sideris
PhD Student
Simos Sideris joined the NEO Lab in October 2018 as a Ph.D Candidate. He received his 5-year Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2017. His Diploma Thesis was under the supervision of Prof. Traianos Yioultsis, where he studied the novel CSRR - loaded Substrate Integrated Waveguide and designed resonant slot antennas for Radar Use. Before NEO Lab, Simos worked at Fieldscale as a Computational Electromagnetics Engineer. At the NEO Lab Simos studies THz generation from nonlinear metamaterials.

Eviatar Minerbi
PhD Student
Eviatar Minerbi joined the NEO Lab in October 2018 as a Ph.D. candidate. He received his B.Sc. degree and M.Sc. degree in Physics from Bar-Ilan University in 2012 and 2018 respectively. His master's research was completed under the supervision of Prof. Sharon Shwartz where he explored difference frequency generation of ultraviolet from x-ray pulses in opaque materials. At the NEO Lab Eviatar studies nonlinear processes arising from nano-structures.

Yotam Ater
MSc Student
Yotam joined the NEO Lab in March 2016 as an M.Sc. student. He received his B.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics from the Technion in May 2015. During his B.Sc. he participated in a research project under the supervision of Prof. Oren Cohen, where he helped design and build a small mass spectrometer as part of a larger experimental setup. His junior EE project studied the feasibility of using machine learning and computer vision algorithms on mobile platforms as an aid in the medical diagnosis of facial palsy, the results were presented at the MobileMed 2014 conference in Prague. At the NEO Lab Yotam is studying novel approaches to correction of chromatic aberrations using meta-materials.

Danielle Benhaim
PhD Student

Mai Tal
MSc Student
Mai joined the NEO Lab in March 2016 as a research assistant, growing and performing fluorescence measurements of peptide nanostractures. She worked on a LabVIEW program that connects together different devices in the lab and automates various measurement processes. Mai started her Msc in October 2017, and she is working on THz emission from nonlinear metasurfaces.
